In September of 2022, I partnered with Hong-Kong based NGO Caritas.

Together, we brought the initiative Project Home to life.

Their Neighborhood Kitchen Project supports 164 children living in sub-divided flats by providing a space where they can dine, relax, work-out, and get access to medical care.

While running art classes at the center, I was blown away by how honestly and creatively they expressed their emotions on paper.

I was so inspired that over the next eight months, we collaborated with a network of textile designers, clothing manufacturers, and savvy student volunteers to print and sell 80 hoodies with unique designs inspired by their art.

It was a smashing success. We raised enough money to buy desk lamps for studying and art supplies for everyone.

While the process taught me a great deal about teamwork, what made this experience so personally meaningful was how it reshaped my understanding of volunteering.

Identifying the kids not as recipients of aid but integral participants of a venture didn’t just help the kids, but empowered them by instilling a sense of genuine accomplishment.

So I returned to the drawing board and began working on a second drop. This time, we focused solely on art supplies.

164 tote bags, 164 sketchbooks, 164 origami kits, 164 oil pastel sets, 1,968 markers, and 1,968 crayons. With over 50,000 HKD in funding from an incredible community.

Thankful for the family we’ve formed over the past 3 years.
